Karen Anne Light is an actress who creates collaborative, devised theatre. Productions include Portals and Alice Down the Rwong Wrabbit Whole (San Francisco); Prowling the Abyss (NYC); Unblinking Eye (NYC); Sisters of Rapture (NYC); Different with Theater Grottesco (Santa Fe, NM); and various independent films with Michael Rudnick and George Kuchar. She is in ongoing collaboration with playwright Justin Anderson Taylor (NYC), and directors Elizabeth Baron, Simone Federman, and Jessi Hill. She is an ensemble member of Theater Grottesco (Santa Fe, NM), and appears as Nancy 3 in The Fae, a queer TV series (PrideFLIX, Philedelphia Independent, OUTstream, and Big Apple Film Festivals).
Karen's work in Shakespearean and contemporary theatre inspired her to seek the origins of theatre through clown and physical theatre. She studied contemporary and classical theatre at San Francisco State and the British American Drama Academy (UK); devised physical theatre at Flying Actor Studio with James Donlon & Leonard Pitt (San Francisco), Theatre du Soleil (Paris), and with Elizabeth Baron, John Gilkey, and John O'Keefe; Persian and Middle Eastern dance with Lorna Zilba of Life Dance Theater (San Francisco); and Butoh with Hiroko Tamano (San Francisco).
